MultiplEYE Mid-term Conference: A Resounding Success

We are delighted to share the successful conclusion of the MultiplEYE COST Action 21131 Conference, held on September 12-13, 2024, at the University of New York Tirana (UNYT). This prestigious EU-funded initiative is dedicated to developing a comprehensive multilingual eye-tracking corpus, a project that promises to significantly advance our understanding of language processing and enhance computational language technologies.

The MultiplEYE Conference brought together a distinguished assembly of academics and researchers from leading institutions across Europe. Participants included experts from the University of Zurich, City University of New York, Bogazici University, University of Zagreb, University of Galway, Kaunas University of Technology, Jagiellonian University, and University of Prishtina. Their diverse perspectives and expertise provided invaluable insights into the evolving field of multilingual eye-tracking research.

The conference was graced by the presence of our esteemed Rector, Prof. Dr. Ali Gunes, whose support and leadership have been instrumental in advancing our university's research initiatives. UNYT & AADF Workshop: Empowering Academic Collaboration

On October 25, 2023, the University of New York Tirana (UNYT) had the pleasure of hosting Mr. Enrik Keco, Senior Project Coordinator from the Albanian-American Development Foundation (AADF). Mr. Keco delivered an engaging presentation on the READ program’s 3rd cohort, which focuses on providing research fellowships to Albanian residents and academics in the diaspora.

This informative session highlighted the various opportunities available through the READ program, including collaborative research, joint PhD supervision, curricula development, and co-teaching. These fellowships are designed to foster academic partnerships and enhance scholarly exchange between local and international scholars.

We strongly encourage our faculty members to consider applying for these fellowships. First Study Visit – AKKSHI and TÜBİTAK Project

First Study Visit

From September 28 to October 2, 2023, the University of New York Tirana (UNYT) had the honor of hosting a delegation from Yildiz Technical University, Turkey. This study visit was a key component of our bilateral research project funded by AKKSHI and TÜBİTAK, focusing on the preservation of wall paintings in monumental and civil architecture from the Ottoman period.

During the visit, our guests explored several significant sites across Tirana, Kruja, and Berat. These locations were selected for their rich architectural heritage and historical significance, providing a comprehensive view of Ottoman-era wall paintings and their current state. The collaborative effort aimed to deepen our understanding of conservation challenges and strategies related to these invaluable cultural assets.

The visit was marked by detailed discussions and field surveys that shed light on the preservation issues facing these historic artworks. We extend our sincere gratitude to Assoc. Prof. Lindita Latifi, Dr. Dorina Papa, and MSc. Muharrem Deliu for their dedicated contributions to this project. Their expertise and commitment played a crucial role in the successful execution of this study visit and in advancing our shared goal of safeguarding architectural heritage.

Second Study Visit – AKKSHI and TÜBİTAK Project

Second Study Visit

Building on the success of our first study visit, a second phase of our bilateral research project on the restoration and conservation of Ottoman murals took place from [Insert Dates]. This visit saw researchers from both UNYT and Yıldız Technical University traveling to Bursa and Safranbolu, Türkiye.

The focus of this visit was to conduct detailed site surveys and engage with local experts to further our research on mural preservation in historic buildings. Bursa and Safranbolu, known for their well-preserved Ottoman architecture and UNESCO-listed sites, provided an ideal backdrop for examining conservation techniques and challenges.

During the visit, the team carried out comprehensive fieldwork, including visual assessments and documentation of murals in various historical structures. The insights gained from these surveys are expected to significantly contribute to our understanding of mural preservation and inform future conservation efforts.

This ongoing collaboration underscores our commitment to advancing research in architectural heritage and conservation. We look forward to building on the findings from this visit and continuing our joint efforts to preserve and celebrate the rich cultural legacy of the Ottoman period.

Successful Collaboration with Investment Management Agency on Urban Regeneration Project

As part of UNYT's ongoing expansion of the Research, Project, and Innovation Office, we are pleased to announce a successful meeting with Mr. Klodian Bregu, Director of the Investment Management Agency, and Mr. Gentian Picari, Head of the Development Unit. This governmental entity operates under the Albanian Development Fund (ADF). The meeting was attended by our Esteemed Rector, Prof. Dr. Ali Guest, Head of the Architecture Department, Alessandro Masoni, PhD, and Head of the Research, Project, and Innovation Office, Adela Danaj, PhD.

The focus of this collaboration is the ‘Urban Regeneration of Housing Stock’ project, which aims to enhance the energy efficiency of existing buildings through facade rehabilitation and the installation of thermal insulation systems. The project seeks to transform residential blocks into functional, attractive, and sustainable environments, thereby enhancing property values and contributing to urban development. Beneficiary regions include Shkodër, Kukës, Lezhë, Tropoja, Has, Kurbin, Malësi e Madhe, Vau i Dejas, Mirditë, Durrës, Vorë, Dibër, Bulqizë, Mat, Kamëz, Rrogozhinë, Klos, Krujë, and Kavajë.

Many urban areas are facing challenges related to the condition of facades and energy efficiency. This initiative addresses these issues by transforming outdated and damaged facades, reducing energy loss, improving climatic protection, and enhancing the aesthetics of cities.

In addition, we are proud to announce that three talented UNYT architecture students—Nadja Hoxha, Sara Nazeraj, Enes Xhabija, and Fabjola Papa—have commenced paid internships as part of this initiative. They are actively contributing to the project, gaining valuable hands-on experience, and helping shape the future of Albanian urban spaces.

UNYT Hosts EU Project with BeTa Science Association

EU Project Workshop

The University of New York Tirana (UNYT) hosted a workshop as part of the project "Industrial Policies and Technology Management Youth Worker Mobility," funded by Erasmus+ Mobility of Youth Workers (KA153-YOU). This joint initiative between UNYT and Brain Team Science Association (BETADER), a leading NGO from Türkiye, aims to foster industrial policies and strengthen collaborations between Albania and Türkiye.

The event saw a significant turnout at UNYT as the workshop was conducted in partnership with MÜSIAD Albania. Distinguished attendees included Assoc. Prof. Dr. Sabri Öz, President of BeTa Science Association as well as Professor at the Istanbul Commerce University and Muhammet Isler, President of MÜSIAD Albania. The event was also graced by UNYT's Rector, Prof. Dr. Ali Günes, Mr. Mesut Ozbaysar, Country Representative of the Maarif Foundation in Albania and UNYT Administrator, Dr. Feridun Elgün.

A key highlight of the program was the signing of several Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs). BeTa Science Association and MUSIAD formalized their collaboration with an MoU, witnessed by Commercial Attaché Ms. Pelin Ozdemir. Further MoUs were signed between UNYT and BeTa paving the way for future partnerships and initiatives.

The University of New York Tirana (UNYT) had the distinct honor of hosting the Participatory Evaluation Conference on October 1st, 2024, as part of the COST Action CA20112 initiative. The event was inaugurated with inspiring remarks from Rector Prof. Dr. Ali Güneş, who emphasized the importance of collaboration and innovation in the field of evaluation.

The conference was expertly organized by Professor Eriona Shtembari, a vital member of COST Action CA20112 and a respected figure on the scientific committee. Her dedication, alongside the support of the Project Office, ensured a smooth and engaging experience for all attendees.

Focusing on the critical theme of participatory methods in the evaluation of public policies and programs, the conference aimed to foster active involvement from various stakeholders throughout the evaluation process. This approach not only enhances the quality of evaluations but also ensures that diverse perspectives are considered.

Participants from a range of countries, including Belgium, Albania, Italy, Hungary, Malta, Norway, Kosovo, Portugal, Turkey, Croatia, and Germany, gathered to share their insights on innovative evaluation methodologies. The conference provided a valuable platform for exchanging ideas, fostering international collaboration, and exploring best practices in participatory evaluation.

Overall, the event highlighted UNYT's commitment to academic excellence and its role as a hub for meaningful dialogue in the field of evaluation.
