Farewell Gathering for Prof. Dr Tarifa, former Rector of the University of New York Tirana

An official farewell reception was held for Prof. Dr. Fatos Tarifa on 24 June. For the past four years, Fatos Tarifa was Rector of the University of New York Tirana, the only International University in Albania. Prof. Dr. Tarifa, who is returning to his passion for teaching, will be succeeded by Prof. Dr. Ismail Kocayusufoglu.

Prof.Dr. Fatos Tarifa will be best remembered as the leader of a campaign to introduce the discipline of sociology into higher education in Albania. He is widely considered to be “the founder of sociological studies in Albania, and one of the country’s most prominent social scientists”. Tarifa has “already earned the title of father of Albanian sociology, a moniker he has generally resisted”.
