UNYT becomes first ISC2 Academic Partner in Albania to deliver leading certifications in cybersecurity

Cyber threats are increasingly growing in sophistication, affecting all types of organisations in all sectors. As a result, organisations across the globe are seeking cyber professionals who have the knowledge, competency and experience to understand how do prepare and protect their organisation from these cyber-attacks.

As these organisations look to recruit those with experience, sadly, there are not enough cyber experts readily available.

As a result, the University of New York, Tirana has partnered with ISC2, the world's leading not-for-profit member association for cybersecurity professionals to support students to gain highly sought-after cybersecurity certifications such as the CISSP, to increase their student’s employability and job-readiness.

ISC2’s mission is to strengthen the influence, diversity and vitality of the cyber security field through advocacy, expertise and workforce empowerment that accelerates cyber safety and security in our interconnected world. Employers highly value ISC2 certifications, and can support students with access to increased job opportunities and higher salaries, whilst in roles.

The University of New York Tirana (UNYT) was founded in 2002 as a part of the New York College (NYC) Network of Educational Institutions and was the first private University in Albania.

Situated in the heart of Tirana, the capital city of Albania, UNYT aspires to establish itself as a dynamic, multicultural, and leading center for higher education in the Balkans and beyond. The mission of UNYT is to provide students with the opportunity to obtain university degrees at the Bachelor, Master or Ph.D. level, in a variety of academic and professional specializations, in collaboration with prestigious American and European universities.

Committed to contributing to the nation's development, UNYT’s graduates employment is currently more than 93%. Many of these graduates now work for prestigious companies in Albania and abroad, while others continue their graduate-level studies in top western universities including Harvard University, Massachusetts Institute of Technology, London School of Economics, etc.

ISC2 was attracted on this focus on supporting graduates gain employment, as together we aim to meet the skills need of employers by educating students at various levels through practice based cyber security education.

The University will start with offering the ISC2 Certified in Cyber Security (CC) certification – this enables newcomers or students from all backgrounds (including the non-technical background) to learn the basics and prepare themselves for a junior role in the modern cybersecurity work force.

In addition, students undertaking the MSc Cybersecurity are supported to take the Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP) exam which assures employers that the individual student has the knowledge as well as being up-to-date with industry standards.
