E. Gemi, PhD
Dr. Eda Gemi is specialized in the governance of migration and integration. She is a Senior Lecturer of Political Sociology at the University of New York Tirana. Since 2010, she has been a Research Fellow at the Robert Schuman Centre for Advanced Studies of the European University Institute (EUI), Florence, Italy. In the period 2018-2019 she was Visiting Researcher at the ISR – Institute for Urban and Regional Research of the Austrian Academy of Sciences in Vienna. A Research Fellow at the Hellenic Foundation for European and Foreign Policy (ELIAMEP) in the period 2012-2016, she headed the migration research team and conducted a series of research on migration and integration. Currently, she is the national correspondent for migration in preparing the annual SOPEMI report and representing Greece at OECD Network of International Migration Experts in Paris. She is also contracted by European Commission – REA as an Expert Evaluator and Rapporteur on various academic/scientific projects.
She has authored three books on migration, integration and transnationalism (in English and Greek) and her fourth book “Rethinking Migration and Return in Southeastern Europe: Albanian Mobilities to and from Italy and Greece” is expected to be published by the Routledge in 2020. She has published many articles in refereed journals (e.g., International Review of Sociology), book volumes (e.g., Oxford University Press) and media.
