Study-visit of the Anthropology course students to the Institute of Cultural Anthropology and Art Studies in Tirana
In order to give to the students a comprehensive approach on the study of humanity related to the Albanian culture, UNYT Students of the Anthropology course guided from their lecturer Besmira Lahi PhD, conducted a study visit in the Institute of Cultural Anthropology and Art Studies in Tirana, a scientific research institution in Albania, part of the Academy of Albanian Studies.
Students were given opportunities from researchers of the Institute to be in contact with the rich research-based and meaningful archives of the material culture of Albanian society including:
- Houses interior design and platforms transmitting knowledge on successive generations on eating and sleeping patterns, language and dress;
- The written ethnographic/folkloric documentation and audio-visual data including Albanian folklore from 1966-1990 with songs and traditional dances;
- The photographic historic archives of Marubi and Kol Idromeno;
- Weapons and other sophisticated decorative objects with priceless value due to the touch of history;
These human artefacts of particular importance with long extinct after having survived to the ravages of time offered us cultural groundbreaking moments of surprise by a large amount of information that can be gathered and transmitted by them generation to generation.
One major contribution of the study visit was inclined to the cross-cultural comparison viewpoints created from our international students regarding the differences in which people perceive and organize their life in different ages and geographical spaces.
This learning activity stimulated students to further enhance their understanding of Albanian material culture by providing them with inspiration for their research studies.
