The European Youth Parliament is the largest European programme dedicated to non-formal political education of young Europeans. The Berlin-based foundation supports the development of young people into politically aware and responsible citizens. The EYP is active in 40 European countries.
This year’s 10th National Selection Conference of EYP was held in Vlore, Albania, and University of New York Tirana was the general sponsor of this event. During the first weekend of April, the energetic Organizers’ Team of Aulona 2017, University of New York Tirana students, gathered to discuss upon and create the Programme of the 10th National Selection Conference of EYP Albania. Keeping in mind the session’s concept on “Identity”, the team brainstormed and later decided what will the session’s elements of Aulona would be composed of. The team of UNYT student organizers was getting stronger each day and was working on full throttle to make this experience unforgettable.
The session officially kicked-off on May 18, 2017 with Teambuilding at a sunny beach of Vlorë, followed by the Opening Ceremony and 3 additional unforgettable fruitful days of sessions and student run events. Through its activities, EYP aims to raise awareness of European issues, encourage active European citizenship and motivate young people to get involved in European politics. This means debates around the current socio-political issues that the continent is facing, ranging from environmental and energy questions to the refugee crisis, border control and surveillance. By bringing young people from diverse backgrounds together, EYP promotes international understanding, intercultural dialogue and diversity of ideas and practices.
